Short answer
Yes. Gujarat's Directorate of Horticulture lists shade net house assistance under MIDH and the state's Integrated Horticulture Development Programmes for general, SC and ST farmers. The published pattern is 50% of the cost, on a unit cost of ₹710 per sq m for tubular structures. Some state schemes add extra assistance. You apply online on the i-Khedut portal. Which Gujarat schemes cover a shade net house?
The Directorate of Horticulture, Gujarat publishes its scheme details on doh.gujarat.gov.in. When we checked in October 2026, four scheme pages listed a 'Shade Net / Agro Textile Net House' component. All four follow MIDH guidelines. The table summarises what the pages say for a tubular (pipe) structure. Treat it as a guide only. Check the current portal, because rates and rules change.
| Scheme (as named by the department) | Who can apply | Assistance listed for tubular shade net house | Area limit listed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), Sub Scheme National Horticulture Mission | General, Scheduled Caste and Tribal farmers | Unit cost ₹710/sq m; 50% of the cost | Pro-rata, up to 2,500 sq m per beneficiary |
| General farmers - Integrated Horticulture Development Program (HRT-2) | General farmers | Unit cost ₹710/sq m; 50% of the cost, plus 15% supplementary state assistance (25% for Devipoojak farmers) | Pro-rata, up to 2,500 sq m per beneficiary |
| SCSP Farmers - Integrated Horticulture Development Program | Scheduled Caste farmers | Unit cost ₹710/sq m; 50% of the cost, plus 25% supplementary state assistance | Pro-rata, up to 2,500 sq m per beneficiary |
| TASP Farmers - Integrated Horticulture Development Program | Scheduled Tribe farmers | Unit cost ₹710/sq m; 50% of the cost, plus 25% supplementary state assistance | Pro-rata, up to 2,500 sq m per beneficiary |
What about bamboo shade net houses?
The same scheme pages also list a 'Bamboo / Cable Perlin Structure' shade net house. The unit cost shown is ₹450 per sq m, with 50% of the cost as assistance, and the same supplementary state assistance as the tubular structure in each scheme. For bamboo structures, the pages say assistance is limited to 20 units of up to 200 sq m each per beneficiary.
The MIDH and TASP pages also mention that the unit cost is calculated 15% higher in certain areas. Ask your district horticulture office whether this applies to your village.
Has the area limit changed?
Possibly. The Gujarat scheme pages show a limit of 2,500 sq m per beneficiary. But on 11 August 2025, the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare wrote to state horticulture missions. Its letter said the protected cultivation limit under MIDH sub-schemes was being raised from 2,500 sq m back to 4,000 sq m per beneficiary, from 12 August 2025.
The Gujarat pages may not yet reflect this. Before you plan a structure larger than 2,500 sq m, ask your district horticulture office which limit applies now. One acre is about 4,047 sq m, so this matters for one-acre projects.
How do I apply on i-Khedut?
Every Gujarat horticulture scheme page we checked says to apply online through the i-Khedut portal (ikhedut.gujarat.gov.in).
- 1Register as a beneficiary on i-Khedut. The portal says registration is needed for all scheme benefits, and the Aadhaar check sends an OTP only to the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar.
- 2Watch the portal's news section. Applications for components open in windows, and the portal posts notices when they open.
- 3Choose the scheme that matches your category: general, SC or ST farmer.
- 4Select the shade net house component and enter the area you plan to build.
- 5Keep your land records (7/12 and 8-A), Aadhaar and bank passbook or cancelled cheque ready. The department lists these for other horticulture components; the portal shows the exact list for yours.
- 6Ask your district horticulture office whether you need approval or an inspection before you start building.
What other support can go with a shade net house?
The same Gujarat pages list support for growing crops inside protected structures. All are shown as 50% of the cost. Unless noted, the limit is 2,500 sq m per beneficiary, pro-rata.
- Planting material and cultivation of high-value vegetables in a polyhouse: unit cost ₹150 per sq m. Capsicum, cucumber, tomato and broccoli are among the crops named.
- Planting material and cultivation of orchid and anthurium under a poly or shade net house: unit cost ₹700 per sq m.
- Planting material and cultivation of carnation and gerbera under a polyhouse or shade net house: unit cost ₹600 per sq m.
- Anti-bird or anti-hail net: unit cost ₹50 per sq m, up to 10,000 sq m per beneficiary.
- Under HRT-2, soil-less culture in a poly or net house: unit cost ₹3 lakh per acre, with 50% assistance up to ₹1.5 lakh per acre.
What if my project is larger?
Bigger commercial projects may fit the National Horticulture Board (NHB). NHB's published cost norms under MIDH list tubular shade net houses at ₹710 per sq m in plains and ₹816 per sq m in hilly areas, for projects above 2,500 sq m. The 2025 Ministry letter says the NHB threshold is now 4,000 sq m and above. Ask NHB or your district horticulture office how to apply for an NHB project.
